Membership

Membership on the Mock Trial Board is achieved one of two ways.

For First-Year Students

In the spring of every year the Board hosts it’s First-Year Competition.  The competition requires pairs of competitors to compete in a full mock trial against a duo of their peers.  The competition is held is February and is held at the local court house in downtown D.C.  Awards are bestowed upon those competitors who exhibit exemplary trial skills.  Semi-finalist are selected and compete against one another to select champions.  For more information on the First-Year Competition, visit our Internal Competitions page.

For Upper-Level/Transfer Students

The fall semester brings the opportunity for all upper-level and transfer students to compete for membership on the Board in the Upper-Level Competition. Students competing in this competition earn academic credit for competing, regardless of whether an invitation for Board membership is extended.  An optional class taught by a local practitioner is offered along side the Upper-Level Competition focusing basic trial and oral advocacy skills.  The competition is held in the FAll at the law school.  For more information on the Upper-Level Competition, visit our Internal Competitions page.
