Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition (ETAC)

Alongside its slate of spring external competitions, the GW Law Mock Trial Board is proud to sponsor the Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition, serving as a longstanding premier annual trial advocacy competition, bringing together law students from across the country.
Each spring, Estrella, LLC hosts the Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition (ETAC) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with sponsorship from the George Washington University Law School’s Mock Trial Board. Founded through the leadership of GW Law alumnus Alberto Estrella (’94), the competition has been a longstanding tradition for more than a decade, bringing together law students from across the country to showcase and develop their trial advocacy skills.
Estrella, LLC is a civil litigation law firm with a strong retail and consumer affairs practice. Accordingly, ETAC’s case materials typically focus on legal issues that major retailers may encounter, challenging competitors to apply their knowledge of trial strategy, evidence, witness examination, and courtroom advocacy to realistic litigation scenarios.
ETAC welcomes up to fourteen teams from a diverse range of law schools nationwide. Participants have the opportunity to argue before local attorneys and judges, receive valuable feedback after each round, and refine their practical advocacy skills in a competitive setting. The tournament concludes with an awards reception recognizing the winning team and the competition’s Best Oral Advocate.
More information about the competition, including application details and a link to apply, can be found on the Estrella, LLC webpage here.
